The Advantages of Spring Time Maintenance!
The best time to schedule A/C Maintenance is early or pre-spring. Any damage or stress caused by the dreadful Midwest winter can be treated or reversed with some proper care.
A/C maintenance includes a professional walk-through and cleaning by a trained technician. We highly recommend scheduling a tune-up with your trusty HVAC company as soon as possible!
Why schedule HVAC service in the spring?
The warm weather causes a major need for reliable air-conditioning. Late spring and summer are the peak times for blasting the A/C. It’s the busiest time of the year for HVAC Repair specialists too. Anything that can go wrong with an overused air conditioning unit usually does.
By scheduling a tune-up before we reach high temperatures in Kansas City, you’re guaranteed a convenient appointment time, and a sense of relief heading into the summer. You’ll know your unit is ready to perform reliably through the summer and any necessary post-winter repairs can be dealt with at a convenient time!
Don’t wait until your AC system breaks down on a hot humid day!
Benefits of Springtime A/C Maintenance
1. Reduce Energy Bills
A tune-up keeps your unit up-to-date and your bills under control. The smoother your unit is functioning, the more reliable the unit will be and it’ll be operating cost efficiently. The more build-up and neglect in your unit means more money and repairs.
Also, proper maintenance is proven to reduce your heating and cooling bill by up to 20%!
2. Avoid Another Repair
Maintenance by trained professionals is guaranteed to lessen the need for costly repairs. When maintenance is scheduled and followed through, we are able to save HVAC units from more frequent issues and wallets from unnecessary losses. Those extra repairs are almost always more expensive than any preventative tune-up would have been.
Tune-ups and maintenance are meant to catch any problems before they become extensive and expensive. We catch any issue early and at its origin, ensuring that small issue won’t become big emergency later.
3. Extend the Life & Efficiency of Your Unit
A bi-annual maintenance could increase the lifespan of your HVAC unit by 30-50%! An average unit has a lifespan of about 15 years. With cost-effective maintenance plans, you’re looking at least an additional 5 years. On the other hand, if you neglect professional maintenance for years on end, you could experience a major repair or breakdown before the unit hits its 10th year.
Maintenance not only extends the lifespan of your system, but it also makes it more efficient. Routine maintenance tune-ups can improve your system’s efficiency by up to 25%!

MOST COMMON AIR CONDITIONING PROBLEMS
I know we might not be there yet, but Spring and Summer are coming! You might be enjoying every ounce of heat right now, but come late spring and summer, you might be sick of it. Lancaster Brothers knows air conditioners like the backs of our hands. The winter can take a toll on all of our appliances, even if we don’t use them! Here are some common problems that might pop up when you first flick on your air conditioner!
DIRTY AIR CONDITIONING FILTERS
Did you forget about changing your filter this season? Or last season? Or maybe it’s been a little longer than you can remember? Dirt can clog up your filter and not only can it make your air conditioner not work, it can be bad for your health! As dirt and dust builds up in the filter, it stops working as well to catch the dust and can lead to air being blocked by all the blockage. Make sure you’re replacing your filter!
REFRIGERANT ISSUES
Just like your refrigerator, your air conditioner cools air through refrigerant fluids. Sometimes the fluids are just low and need topping off, but if there’s a leak you might have a bigger issue. If you have a leak, fluid won’t hold in the system, no matter how much you add! Without refrigerant fluid, your air conditioner can’t cool the air and subsequently, can’t cool you! If you think you might have a leak, call us up to get that cool breeze flowing again.
COIL ISSUES
The evaporating coils in an air conditioner cools down the hot air that comes into an air conditioner. The coil can freeze for a multitude of reasons, but if it does, you’ll just be getting hot air blown back out at you! If your filter is dirty, or if the refrigerant is low, your coil can freeze and won’t do its job correctly. We can fix this in a jiffy and get your air conditioner running good as new within the day!
FAN PROBLEMS
The air conditioner fan is used to blow air into the machine to cool it down. If it’s not working, you won’t be getting any air at all! Hot or cold! If the fan motor is broken, or the wiring isn’t right, your air conditioner won’t be in fighting shape at all. If your fan isn’t working, it can lead to further problems down the road that could damage the whole air conditioner, so this isn’t something to be taken lightly. If your fan is broken, make sure you get it fixed before trying to put all the pressure of an air conditioner on a broken part.
These are just a few of the problems that can plague your air conditioner and ruin your house’s great climate. If you’re having any issues with your air conditioner, make sure you give Lancaster Brothers Heating and Cooling a call!
Here at Lancaster Brothers, we recommend Lennox Systems for their quality and efficiency. We make taking care of your Air Conditioning needs as easy as possible. Schedule tune-ups or service over the phone or by email for your convenience. If you would like to take advantage of all of the benefits, become a member of the club! Signs That It’s Time To Replace Your Furnace!
It can be easy to forget about your furnace with everything going on in your house, but it can be costly too! The furnace of your house is a central component in keeping your bills and keeping your family healthy, so it might be time to give that old furnace a thought! Here are some signs that your furnace might be on its last legs:
YOUR HEATING BILLS HAVE GONE UP
A big sign that your furnace is going to go out soon is a rise in your heating bill. No, it’s not the kids playing with the thermostat, as the furnace has to work harder and harder to keep up the same amount of heat, it costs you more. Getting a new furnace can slash your bill down to size. It’s not just your heating bill either, furnace repair bills start to go up as the furnace breaks down. A general rule of thumb is that if it costs over 50% of the price to repair, you might want to upgrade before it breaks for good!
THE AGE OF YOUR FURNACE
Nothing good lasts forever. That applies to your furnace too! As your furnace ages it becomes harder and harder for it to do its job efficiently. This leads to all sorts of headaches, not the least of which might be a coooold winter. If the furnace in your house is nearing twenty years of age, it might be time for retirement!
WORSE AIR QUALITY IN YOUR HOME
Have you been getting sick more? It might not just be the season, it might be the air in your home! If your furnace is struggling, it can’t efficiently regulate air in your home, leading to all kinds of problems. Ask us how to improve the humidity and indoor air quality in your home with our Lennox Healthy Climate indoor air products.
IT SOUNDS BAD
If you can hear your furnace wheezing and banging, you don’t want to ignore it! As a furnace dies, it will start making erratic and spooky noises. No, it’s not a ghost, but you should still call the experts to come check it out!
TIME FOR A REPLACEMENT?
If your furnace has been exhibiting these signs, call Lancaster Brothers today! We specialize in heating and cooling of all kinds. You’re probably lucky, we have some great deals and rebates on new furnaces from Lennox, so give us a call to make your family (and your checkbook) happier!

Wi-Fi Thermostats: Which One Is Best for You?
These days, home automation is becoming more and more mainstream. Our devices and appliances are being networked together to provide us with seamless control over all aspects of our homes, turning them into “smart homes.” A programmable Wi-Fi thermostat is a perfect example of how the way we control our homes is being revolutionized.
Wi-Fi Thermostats Give You Control from Anywhere
A wireless, or Wi-Fi, thermostat regulates temperature, improves energy efficiency and feedback, and ensures that you’re comfortable at all times. These thermostats build upon the basic features of older programmable thermostats, but they include a large variety of added features. One of the many appeals of a Wi-Fi thermostat is that they enable you to stay connected to your home, no matter where you are. Once you sync your Wi-Fi thermostat with your router, you will have remote access from a computer or via an app on your smartphone or tablet. From the palm of your hand, you can have total control over your home’s temperature.
Popular Wi-Fi Thermostats Compared
Here are a few of the most popular Wi-Fi thermostats available today, all of which are both iOS and Android compatible.
- Ecobee3 Thermostat: This model understands when to turn on your heat or air conditioning. It tracks this based on many data points such as your home’s unique energy profile and the weather outside.
The Ecobee3 includes a remote sensor that enables you to monitor the temperature in more than one room in your house. It even senses whether anyone is home and what rooms are occupied and will maintain a lower programmed temperature when empty saving energy and money. Ecobee3 saves homeowners an average of 23% annually on their energy bills. It is HomeKit, Apple’s framework for home automation, enabled and also works with Amazon Alexa for voice control.
- Nest Learning Thermostat V.3: One of the great things about this model is that it learns the temperatures you like, and begins to program itself, all within about a week’s time. Nest is extremely energy-efficient. One unique feature is it alerts you when you choose a temperature that saves energy, and enables you to check your energy history. This Nest model also automatically turns itself down when no one is home. When Nest senses you across the room, it lights up to show you the time, temperature or weather. This model also works with Amazon Alexa for voice control.
- Honeywell RTH8580WF1007 Wi-Fi Thermostat: This touchscreen model, is ranked as the best budget model. It features remote 7-day scheduling to accommodate your family’s busy schedule without sacrificing comfort. It also has automatic software updates as well as a “temporary hold” setting for when you’re on vacation or otherwise away. The Honeywell features voice control and works with multiple smart home systems.
If you’re interested in learning more about these programmable wireless thermostats, contact Lancaster Brothers today and let us help you decide which type is best for you. We’ll handle the installation, too.

After Hours Service
At Lancaster Brothers We Strive To Give All Of Our Customers A Positive Experience:
Here is feedback from one of our customers during this hot spell.
Hi Chris. I wanted to tell you about my experience with your company. Last night about 6:30, we noticed our AC was not cooling or blowing much air. I called the emergency line and got ahold of Kevin. He asked us to look to see if the unit was blowing, etc. We were getting minimal air to come in the and heat was rising. He told me he was in Blue Springs and I told him that I hated for him to drive all the way to South Olathe at that time of night and that we could just limp along. To be honest, I thought that I might need a pay advance to pay for emergency services, so I thought I better wait. He immediately told me that an emergency call was only $165.00 (you could charge way more) and a regular call was only $125.00. That is so reasonable. I still told him I hated for him to drive that far. He told me “ I would rather come and check on it tonight, besides, that is what we are here for “. He came and fixed it and was so professional and nice. We have had construction/remodeling in our basement and concrete dust had restricted and cause the unit to freeze up. My bill was still $165.00.
You guys run a TOP NOTCH business and I appreciate it so much!! Just thought I would let you know
